There is an article on my local news website about the new graduates and the poor job market. To poor salt into the wound, they talk about student debt. What a great mix of topics!
The fireworks and stories start in the comments (read them here).
So, you went to school. Great.
You got debt. I guess a necessary evil.
What did you major in?
What did you do during school to land a career-job after you graduated?
I see is people are majoring in something that doesn’t pay a lot but incurring a lot of debt. The math is simple but it is ignored.
I also see people not doing anything career management related until they get out of school. And then, living with their parents, or with their new small family, it gets more serious. You can’t hide behind “I’m too busy because I’m in school… I have a test coming up!” That is an artificial environment.
One of my favorite tips I heard was to start an ebay business, whether that was related to your career path or not. Starting your own business will teach you so much… SO MUCH.
The big question is, does society, or your school, owe you anything? Or is it time to get to work on your career?
