I got an email from Andreea Ayers, founder of Launch Grow Joy, with a infographic about what you could do on Pinterest as an entrepreneur. While she specifies things you would do if you are in the Pinterest popular topics (Baby/kids, fashion, food, health/fitness, travel – isn’t that what Pinterest is all about?), she also breaks down 15 ideas for the marketing / small biz industry (not really one industry), and 52 ideas for every entrepreneur.

I was doing research for my book webinar and I found this article: Sites to spread the word about your free ebook
The kicker is that you have to offer the eBook for free…. which can be a temporary thing (in other words, set the price at zero, get the marketing from this huge list of sites, and then put a real price on the eBook).
Interesting, huh? I didn’t expect to find a list of sites that did this type of thing… !

Having done what I do for almost eight years, I can attest that it is hard, scary, and prone to financial failure. I can also say that it can be rewarding, fun, and full of excitement and hope.
The benefits you think you get with a traditional job (security, health insurance, etc.) pull at you… who doesn’t want a steady paycheck and benefits??
Is that the reason why the number of self-employed businesses have decreased by 660,000 from 2008 to 2011 (as per the article)?
Or, like in the comments, is this a great time to do this stuff, especially with tools like kickstarter and the real power of social tools?
I saw a big shift from SEO experts to “social marketing” experts – that is, the people who help companies make money from Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.

I saw people who lost business and contracts when Google made certain changes. Companies who had invested in an SEO strategy found all their time and money went bye-bye… it’s kind of a dangerous game, as you do something and hope Google doesn’t pull the rug out from under you.
That is what is happening at Facebook, according to that article. I don’t fault Facebook, but there are two lessons here:
1. If the bulk of your money depends on another company (like in this case, or like in using an API for a different company), you put all of your security into the other company;
2. If there is change that means some people are moving out of your industry, I am sure there are more or other opportunities for you (either there, with a changed strategy), or in a new field.

I’m regularly asked about Kickstarter, and if that is a good way to raise money. Check out Amanda Palmer’s campaign. She had a goal of $100,000, and after almost 25k people “backed” her, she raised almost $1.2 million dollars…. almost 12 times what she was asking for!
Crazy cool. An independent artist pre-selling $1,192,793 dollars… and the profit isn’t shared with a big label or anything like that. Awesome.

I’ve been studying this for a video course I’m preparing… I’m amazed at how empowered an individual can be. It’s really making me think “I need to write some more ebooks!” You can get all of my books in paperback or ebook, but maybe I should spend some time cranking out a bunch of ebooks?

I found this video by Beth Grant while surfing around and thought it was really quite brilliant. It helps you understand how to align your selling style with who you are. I’ve been to a lot of presentations and seen what she is talking about, but never framed like this before. Totally worth the time to watch and internalize.
